Greetings WebSpellChecker clients,
Ready, set, spring! WebSpellChecker is excited to announce a new features hunt. Be sure to review the full roundup in order not to miss an important update. For additional details, simply let us know.
Springing forward AI writing assistant
Meet a smarter and safer AI writing assistant. This time, we’ve made sure the text operations match your English dialect, so the output is totally on point with the language of the input.
We keep working on the prompts under the hood to defend you and your users from such pitfalls as hallucinations, prompt injections, etc.
Plus, good news — it now supports 🇳🇱 Dutch and 🇵🇹 🇧🇷 Portuguese (and dialects) languages, in addition to English, German, French and Spanish.
Moreover, AI writing assistant has become available as a standalone version with AWS Bedrock deployment. MVP is already here.
Interested in activating the feature? Simply let us know.
✏️ What’s next?
We’re busy as bees preparing new text operations: tone of voice detection, readability improvement and translation.
Under WProofreader core umbrella
If WebSpellChecker has a spring bucket list, it will look like this:
Plugin for TinyMCE
We released an npm package for the WProofreader plugin that integrates with the TinyMCE editor. The package inherits all the functionality of the WProofreader component, with some adaptations to accommodate the specific view and features of the TinyMCE editor. These adaptations include: adding a button to the TinyMCE toolbar, listening for read-only mode switches, implementing a theme that matches the look and feel of TinyMCE.
Drupal configuration upgrades
Collaboratively with our partners in CKSource, we added more configuration options for our Drupal clients, incl. support of AI writing assistant and fields for custom configuration.
Accessibility improvements
Now the solution is more accessible for mobile devices and in mobile browsers.
CodeMirror 6 support
Finally, this spring we’ve rolled out the support for CodeMirror 6 editor.
Full bloom of proofreading engines
Getting fresh air with our grammatical error correction (GEC) in-house model for English v2.0!
- The latest version of RedPenNet, our in-house AI model for grammatical error correction (GEC), is built on the same architecture as the old one, but we’ve fixed numerous irritating bugs like shifted suggestions. The model has been trained and tested on a large amount of data, so the quality is definitely improved for cases with subject-verb agreement, hyphens, prepositions, punctuation, etc.
- Our spring-cleaning fever continues. All the components of our proofreading engines undergo considerable improvements and changes. We review the logic performance of third-party spelling and grammar engines, extend style guides to filter nonsense, optimize the autocorrect feature, etc.
- In total, for English and dialects solely, 2,000+ spelling entries were processed, 250+ autocorrect pairs were filtered, 150+ dialect and 120 style guide cases were reviewed.
Don’t get us wrong, AI is the bomb, but you can’t beat the old-school rules and dictionaries — they still have a lot to offer!
✏️ What’s next?
Engine upgrades for other popular languages are on the horizon.
Growing seeds of admin panel
Back at the end of 2024, we dropped the admin panel for the proofreading functionality management for cloud clients, and we’ve been working on it nonstop since then.
So, admin panel v2 is here — welcome it!
Recently, we’ve made a bunch of changes to give the registration and management flows a fresh look and feel. Specifically, we:
- Added domain permissions feature
- Improved the analytics functionality
- Made minor UX improvements

✏️ What’s next?
The support for on-prem version and new capabilities for the cloud are on the way.
Decluttering other
The last but not the least important changes include:
- security-related updates of 3rd party libraries vulnerable versions, filtering API input for potential threats, additional security headers (‘X-Content-Type-Options’ and ‘Strict-Transport-Security’) enabled
- improved API: added correct_text query parameter that allows to get text with already applied suggestions.
✏️ What’s next?
Summer, so our vacation workation mood is activated! More updates are coming, so stay tuned.
