☃️🌟Special newsletter — 2024 in review

Dear clients,

Welcome to our final newsletter! This year we did our best to combine new beginnings with the timeless quality. Frankly, it wasn’t a walk in the park — we had to deal with a ton of challenges. But your killer feedback kept us going and helped us crush it.

So, meet the 2024 holiday pack of updates and improvements.

Admin panel — the protagonist of the year!

Finally! We’re more than proud to present you with the main feature release of the year. Meet — a much-anticipated admin panel for the proofreading functionality management, incl. subscription, analytics, custom dictionaries and rules, team users.

Now available for cloud clients, on-prem support is on the way.

The migration of your current accounts, subscriptions and data will be done gradually. You will be informed when the migration is completed.

To join the squad of early adopters and test the admin panel, please contact us.

It’s the most wonderful … AI writing assistant

Back in spring we released AI writing assistant available for the cloud WProofreader-based product version and API.

It’s geared for text rewrite and content generation in English, German, French and Spanish. If you haven’t had a chance to try it yet, you should definitely give it a go. Everyday paperwork is to become much easier.

We’re still working on the text rewriter support for the self-hosted product version — so stay tuned! By the way, those clients who are hosting their infrastructures on AWS, can get access to the feature sooner, approximately by the mid of January.

WProofreader holiday pack of core updates

We continue gearing you up with new integrations, development options, and UX improvements:

  • New Drupal integration coming in a bundle of CKEditor 5 Premium Features module and CKEditor 5 Plugin Pack under free access.
  • New integrations with the WProofreader browser extension (Free and Business): Google Docs and Google Sheets. Just to remember — the extension is available as the self-hosted product that can be connected to your self-hosted application.
  • New proofreading modes: the extended dialog mode with all issues grouped by categories and sidebar mode to natively integrate WProofreader into custom environments
  • UX improvements: translated and verified localizations for 50+ languages, compact badge to open the dialog on-click, accessibility compliance upgrades (updated VPAT report is available on demand).
  • Other important things: the support for non-editable elements, speed-up underlines, new options to prevent unauthorized requests.

Try the updates yourself on the demo page. Happy programming and proofreading!

Season engines & style guide improvements

Remember, we boasted about our great move towards the total upgrade of the text check performance? In a nutshell, these changes relate to:

  • Third-party spelling engines cleaning and reviewing: 7,000+ cases  processed in both common and medical/legal lexicons and reconsidering of the entire logic.
  • Third-party grammar component analysis and reviews of inconsistent rules. Good news for those of you who are tired of false unpaired quotes alerts — we’ve fixed that.
  • New AI engine version: finally we’ve made it — we released the v1.0 of our in-house AI model for GEC, RedPenNet, with improved proofreading quality, fewer false alerts and fixed long-lasting issue with shifted suggestions.
  • New shades of the style guide functionality: the profanity language check for Spanish and French, TALLman medical wordlists, Ukrainian proper names transliteration, LGBTQIA+ dataset.

Plus, with a new API command for style guide you can effectively add, remove and edit custom rules.

Evergreen security refreshments

We’re committed to our core values, in particular, to follow the best security practices of proofreading service provision.

Throughout the year, we’ve been updating 3rd party components to eliminate any public vulnerabilities, introduced a list of settings to secure API requests, made a list of fixes to address potential XSS vulnerabilities, prepared an example of API gateway. Based on the penetration testing results, drafted VAPT (vulnerability assessment and penetration testing) report.

At all times, your data is safe and sound.

Countdown-to-2025

Thank you for another great year. It has been a record year for us, and it wouldn’t have been possible without your partnership.

Numbers we’re proud of:

  • We’ve made 24 releases
  • We’ve fixed 223 bugs
  • We’ve processed and fixed 800+ client requests

What’s next?

The festive season is nearly upon us, we’re ready to eat, drink and be merry … till the 2nd of January 🥂 after that new milestones are to come:

  • more predefined text operations for AI writing assistant and support for the on-premises clients
  • Admin panel functionality upgrades  and support for the on-premises clients
  • Future improvements of algorithmic oldie but goodie spelling engines
  • Autocomplete suggestions enhancements (v2.0)

When we wish you a Merry Xmas, we mean we wish you a Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa or joy in whatever holiday season you may celebrate. See you in the New Year!
