Dear WebSpellChecker clients,
In winter, we plotted and planned. In spring, we moved!
In this blog post, we’ll walk you through the important new features and changes in WebSpellChecker over the last months. Here’s a peak of what you can look forward to with recent product releases.
Here comes the sun WProofreader AI writing assistant
Spring is all about discovery and growth. We’re super excited to introduce you to our new functionality — AI writing assistant!
AI writing assistant is a text rewriter and content generator tool for English, German, French and Spanish.
With AI writing assistant, you can transform your texts in different ways: shorten, expand, rewrite, improve style, make them sound more formal or informal, summarize key ideas and proofread. This is the list of default text operations, which we’re going to extend further — so, stay tuned.
As of now, AI writing assistant is available only for the cloud WProofreader-based product version and via API in the default disabled state. The free access is limited by the text size (predefined words count) for text operations. To enable the feature, please reach out to us.
Style guide is blooming
Customer expectations are always evolving. That’s why we continue upgrading our style guide functionality.
In particular, this quarter, we’ve expanded the profanity language check for Spanish and French, added TALLman medical wordlists for three languages, implemented correct transliteration suggestions for typos in Ukrainian proper names — just to be sure that Kyiv is always spelled correctly 🇺🇦
During several iterations, we’ve released API command for style guide to allow you to add, remove and edit custom rules.
Spring harvest of WProofreader core updates
Another season, another set of the core changes. What’s important under the WProofreader hood?
- new options requestHeaders and withCredentials to ensure the protection of the application server-side from unauthorized requests by non-authorized users — check docs
- new onCheckStatusChange callback function activated when the proofreading tasks start and finish
- updated localizations for Swedish and Icelandic languages
- new Drupal integration! Now WProofreader is available for Drupal as a part of CKEditor 5 Premium Features module and CKEditor 5 Plugin Pack under free access. Check more about WProofreader free vs premium and correct content natively in the CMS environment.
Refined engines & autocomplete are in the air
Spring break got us like… refining proofreading engines and autocomplete suggestions.
Since the beginning of 2024, we have managed to extend the default English spelling dictionaries with 1000+ cases, including those reported by users and above-mentioned medical ones.
Importantly, we’ve made it and distinguished spelling issues from grammar and style ones generated by AI at the post-processing step. No obtrusive blue lines under typos anymore.
And, besides, we’ve done good work around the autocomplete suggestions to avoid non-inclusive and offensive output. More improvements are to come.
